More bad news for Apple. After Creative, Cowon has recently announced that two of its most popular devices, the D2 and iAudio 7 players, have gloriously jumped to the 16GB summit, meaning they practically doubled their storage capacity, since its last series.

But what that really means is not only an important step ahead of the mighty Apple, but also more memory for the users, meaning more music, up to 4000 songs and even more longer video clips for the D2 model.

According to the company's representatives, another important fact for the firm is that iAudio 7 has reached 16GB of internal memory; the other player, D2, has succeeded a larger and thinner touch screen, which requires a "combo" pack that ships the player with 8GB incorporated memory and adds other 8GB SDHC card.

As for the general design patterns, both players have kept the same features. Regarding their capabilities, they can still deal with the most common file formats on the market, including FLAC, OGG, MP3 and WMA, as well as MPEG-4 and XviD clips at half the frame rate for iAudio 7 and full-speed for the D2. They are both compatible with Macs and Windows PCs.

However, if you're wondering about the pricing and availability details, there was no official word on that. Apparently, as it was rumored over the Internet that Cowon 16Gb iAudio player will sell for approximately 320 bucks, while D2's price tag will reach even higher $445, probably because of its extra options that include the DMB digital tuner, so popular these days. There are also some unconfirmed US versions expected.

Cowon is the second important company on the market to introduce the 16GB players, after the Zen V Plus. Meanwhile, Apple's secret labs are developing the 16Gb video iPod for a September launch, when it's most likely to kick some Korean asses.

We'll see about that, soon!
