Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is getting some fresh action today, with the launch of the Lord of the Hunt DLC.

The game puts players in the shoes of a fallen Ranger, Talion, revived by a mysterious Wraith after finding his demise at the hands of a pack of orcs. Sharing a fate similar to that of the Wraith, Talion vows to take vengeance on those who killed his family, and in the process he follows the vengeful spirit's desire to inflict retribution on Sauron, the Dark Lord.

The action-adventure title was very well received and impressed many with its innovative systems and engaging mechanics, most notably the Nemesis system, a robust gameplay tool that enables you to craft your own story while exploring Mordor and slaying countless orcs.

Using the powers of the spirit, you are able to subvert the mind of the orc chieftains and control their actions, enabling them to rise to power through the ranks of the great army and ultimately using them against Sauron.

Our Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor review can offer more insight into the game's inner workings, and into its brutal and mature theme, and the way the Nemesis system makes everything come alive and feel more like a connected world, rather than just a series of enemies to defeat before reaching the goal post.

Fresh gameplay elements

The downloadable content pack will be available as a standalone release, as well as part of the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Season Pass.

The DLC pack is available for the Xbox One home console from Microsoft and will be making its way to the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system from Sony shortly. For the time being, there is no estimated time of arrival for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the downloadable content pack.

The new content will follow Dwarven Hunter Torvin's story and will introduce a bunch of new Uruk Beastmaster Warchiefs to battle, as well as numerous hunting challenges to tackle.

The DLC also comes with the Ultimate Beastmaster skin for Talion, five epic runes for mounts, and a bunch of more stuff, among which probably the most exciting is the Wretched Graug, a brand new mount that spews pestilent toxins over your enemies.

With the aid of Torvin the Dwarven Hunter, you will take on many new wild and untamable beasts and continue the fight against the forces of Mordor.

The gameplay trailer released by developer Monolith Productions highlights the additions in the DLC pack, showing that it's every bit as gruesome and bloody as the original package.
