Video game developer Monolith Productions and publisher Warner Bros. are announcing that they are planning to launch the long-awaited Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition on May 5 on the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

The package is designed to include the core game and all the downloadable content that was launched for it.

The Game of the Year name is justified as the publisher points out that Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor managed to get the award at the Game Developer Choice Awards and also picked up 8 DICE wins.

The story packs that gamers will get access to include The Lord of The Hunt and The Bright Lord, and when it comes to skins they can use The Dark Ranger, Captain of the Watch, Lord of the Hunt, The Bright Lord, Power of Shadow and Lithariel Skins.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition also adds new runes: Hidden Blade, Deadly Archer, Flame of Anor, Rising Storm, Orc Slayer, Defiant to the End, Elven Grace, Ascendant, One with Nature.

In terms of missions, the game is expanded with Guardians of the Flaming Eye, The Berserks and The Skull Crushers Warband Missions, and there are also more challenge modes to test the skills of the player.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition also introduces the photo mode.

The entire package is appealing, although some players will probably be less than happy that the price tag is set at 49.99 dollars or Euro rather than a little lower.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition is a stopgap for Warner Bros.

The publisher is satisfied with the reception, and the sales of the title and the new version is a way to get some more players interested.

Given the fact that Warner Bros. is interested in a long-term development for the Middle-earth video game franchise, it's very probable that a new title linked to Shadow of Mordor will be announced soon.

The biggest innovation that needs to be expanded upon is the Nemesis system, which managed to create an interesting world where the actions of the players have a clear impact on their enemies and their long-term plans.
