14 DAY TRIAL // If you're a Windows insider, you’ve probably noticed that the new build for PCs has been renamed from “Windows 10 Technical Preview” to “Windows 10 Insider Preview,” and it looks like a similar change is being prepared for phones as well.
Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones will soon be renamed to “Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview,” which could be a hint that Microsoft might have picked the final name for the next version of its smartphone operating system.
This rumor comes via Twitter user @Nawzil8, who had already provided us with some good reports on unreleased Microsoft projects in the past and who says that this renaming is very likely to take place in the next build expected anytime soon.
While Microsoft hasn't offered any kind of information regarding the release date of the new preview build, the company could ship it sometime this month, together with an early version of the Office productivity suite designed for phones.
Redmond initially planned to roll out the new Office suite in late April, but the company announced at BUILD in San Francisco that the release would be pushed back a few weeks to early May, so the new version is now expected to go live together with the new version of the OS.
New PC build also expected
May turns out to be a rather busy month for Microsoft insiders, as in addition to a new build for phones and the first version of Office for phones, the software giant is also working to launch a new preview for PCs.
Already renamed to Windows 10 Insider Preview, the early tidbits for PC allow users to try out features such as the Start menu, multiple desktops, Cortana, and a notification center borrowed from Windows Phone.
The next version of Windows 10 for PCs is also very likely to bring us Microsoft Edge, the company's new browser previously known as Spartan and supposed to replace Internet Explorer as the default browser in Windows 10.
Keep in mind that Microsoft's plans to change the name of Windows 10 for phones are not yet confirmed, so take the report with a grain of salt until this actually happens.
