Apple and Napster will go down first?

iPod is certainly the users' sweetheart and the companies' nightmare. And as it is more and more obvious that no one can come up with something better, the only breach to be assaulted is represented by the iTunes.

This breach is targeted by Napster, RealNetworks, Yahoo!, and lately Microsoft seems to have joined the gang. After the rumors regarding Microsoft's intentions to launch a subscription-based download service, that have appeared on Friday, leading to a drop in the value of Apple's, Napster's and RealNetworks shares, today the company from Redmond confirmed that it is carefully considering the possibility of creating such a service.

The company's officials gave no other clues regarding the subscription's price or its launch date.

As this new player steps into the ring, it's clear that iTunes will have to study more carefully the possibility of introducing subscriptions.

Up until now iTunes had remained loyal to the concept of selling music rather than renting it, but now it seems that a subscription system will be introduced, at the user's express request.
