In the third fiscal quarter, concluded on March 31, Microsoft obtained a 2.56 billion dollars profit, almost double compared to last year.

According to Thomson Financial, in this period, Microsoft had an income of 9.62 billion dollars, which means a 5% increase compared to last year's 9.17 billion dollars, but less than the 9.82 billion dollars predicted by the analysts.

The increases recorded by Microsoft are a result of the reduction of legal expenses, the company spending only 768 millions compared to last year's 2.5 billions and the 12% sales increase for Xbox and SQL Server.

Compared to these, Microsoft's classic products: Windows and Microsoft Office have only recorded modest increases: 2.2 % and 2.5%.

For the last fiscal quarter, Microsoft estimates even bigger increases, expecting incomes of 10.1 or 10.2 billion dollars, meaning a 11% increase.

Microsoft's optimistic previsions are founded on the increases expected after the introduction of a new series of software and hardware products.

Regarding software, Microsoft is relying on new versions of SQL Server and Visual Studio, and May is also the month for the launching of the new Xbox console, which is already number two in this domain worldwide.
