The company promises that Windows Phone 7 devices can be held either which way with no negative impact to user experience

Microsoft has gone for Apple’s jugular, and mocked the Cupertino-based company for the problems plaguing iPhone 4. One of the software giant’s top executives compared iPhone with Windows Vista, an operating system itself riddled with a variety of issues impacting software and hardware compatibility and offering poor performance. And fact is that a poor user experience is what owners of the latest iteration of iPhone 4 are getting, as the phones have been found to contain a severe flaw causing loss of signal and dropped calls if the devices are held in a specific manner.

Kevin Turner, Chief Operating Officer poured even more fuel on the fire, adding to the barrage of criticism Apple is facing. While the Cupertino company is working to resolve the backlash against iPhone 4, Microsoft is enjoying smooth sailing and clear skies. The Redmond company’s latest products have enjoyed rave reviews, with incessant praises for Windows 7.

And just to add insult to injury, Turner pointed out that Microsoft will make sure that customers will be able to hold upcoming Windows Phone 7 devices either which way. And it’s not that Apple is not inviting ridicule, after it put forward the absurd expectation for end users not to hold their iPhone 4 in a certain way, essentially blaming the faulty device on consumers.

“But one of the things that I want to make sure that you know today is that you're going to be able to use the Windows Phone 7 and not have to worry about how you're holding it to make a phone call. It looks like iPhone 4 might be their Vista. And I'm OK with that. That's another mantle they're welcome to take. I actually read that headline last week, and I just sort of had to smile after I did cartwheels again,” Turner said.

The audience watching Turner’s speech at the Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) 2010 cheered, applauded and laughed as Microsoft’s Chief Operating Officer took stabs at Apple.
