A joint Microsoft and Temenos Group solution for the banking market is capable of handling no less than 3,400 transactions per second for a total of 25 million accounts and 15 million customers across 2,000 branches.

The two companies, which partnered in 2009, have published the results of a high-performance benchmark designed to measure the high-end scalability of their bundle of technologies.

TEMENOS T24 (T24) together with SQL Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter are all at the heart of the core banking solution provided by the duo.

According to the Redmond company, the offering is more than capable of supporting even the largest retail banking operations.

In addition to being able to process in excess of 3,400 transactions per second in online testing, the Microsoft and Temenos core banking solution also delivered more than 5,200 interest accrual and capitalizations per second on average.

“Our partnership with Temenos is proving very successful on several fronts,” revealed Karen Cone, general manager of Worldwide Financial Services at Microsoft.

“This confirmation of T24’s performance capability on the Microsoft platform to address the requirements of the world’s largest banks is clearly a very exciting result, which will undoubtedly be of interest to many of our existing financial services customers.”

“Many of these banks already benefit from Microsoft technologies for their mission-critical distribution channels and in support of customer-facing staff,” she added.

Cone added that a number of banks have already showed interest for the new solution offered by Microsoft and Temenos, but did not name any specific customers.

“With T24 performing at this level, we are able to deliver those same total cost-of-ownership benefits, flexibility and agility to an area that has historically been hampered by legacy systems, where replacement has been perceived as challenging,” she said.

In addition to TEMENOS T24 (T24) on SQL Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter, Intel’s Xeon 7500 Processor Series was also leveraged t support the benchmark.

According to the software giant all the testing was performed in July in its Redmond campus.

“We have always been committed to providing our customers with the widest possible choice of hardware and software platforms on which they can run T24,” noted Temenos CEO Andreas Andreades.

“With this benchmark we bring to market a revolutionary solution which we are confident can serve the needs of large banks while delivering a superior cost strategy.”
