The download service that will compete against iTunes

Microsoft will go tomorrow head to head against Apple's iTunes, as it launches the URGE service, available at first in beta.

For starters, URGE will offer 2 million songs, which will be priced at 99 cents each, but will also provide users with full albums, with a price tag of $9.95.

Additionally, there will also be two subscription plans, one available for $9.95 and other for $14.95.

The new download service will be tightly connected to the new version of Media Player, number 11.

Together with URGE, users will also be able to download Media Player 11, although the unofficial version has been circulating the Internet for days.

Microsoft's strategy is an obvious attempt to shake Apple's supremacy, the best proof being the lack of compatibility between URGE and Cupertino company's iPod.
