If you’re a college student living in India, now is the time to turn your attention to Microsoft. The tech giant has partnered up with HP and Pearson in order to roll out a new tablet that comes pre-bundled with educational content.

Introducing the HP Omni 10, a slate that runs Windows 8.1 out of the box as you might expect. The tablet has a spacious 10-inch display and a capable full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels).

Being a device that will be sold mostly to students, the screen is protected by a coating of Corning Gorilla Glass 3, so it can resist occasional scratches.

An Intel Atom Z3770 processor lies under the hood, clocked at 1.46GHz (can go as far as 2.4GHz) and fitted with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory (with microSD card support).

Naturally, there are two cameras onboard (an 8MP one with Auto-Focus on the back, and a 2MP 720p front-facing webcam), but also stereo speakers, HP Premium Sound, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Ambient light sensor, Hall and eCompass.

Now this might seem like your regular tablet, but the Omni 10 comes with a set of pre-loaded 10 eBooks and also grants access to various Microsoft developer tools and servers via the student site DreamSpark, says TheHinduBussinesline.

Furthermore, Pearson offers e-learning content which includes theory papers of first semester engineering and MBA courses.

Pearson provides self-learning courses for students attending engineering university of the first semester. Guide/notes, flash cards, video case studies are also provided for MBA students.

With the purchase of the tablet, students will be granted a single sign-on student mail ID, 50GB of mailbox and 25GB of OneDrivePro free.

The HP Omni 10 tablet is eligible for purchase with an EMI plan for Rs. 2,990 / $49 / €35 for 12 months and is available for all technical and management institutes.

However, those who want to purchase the tablet outright can very well do so, for the price of Rs. 29,999 / $491 / €356.

Back in February, we also brought you news that Microsoft had partnered up with Acer, MDB Group and Tata Teleservices in order to launch another slate aimed at education on the market, in the form of the Acer Iconia W4-820.

Unlike the HP one, the Acer slate was targeted at private schools (K6-12). The Iconia W4 also came with a pre-loaded package which included Microsoft Office Home and Student, Office 365 Education A2 and MDB’s Group Digital learning curriculum for State Boards, CBSE & ICSE.
