Microsoft announces that at the moment, the Xbox Live service associated with both the Xbox One home console and the older 360 is being affected by the bigger problems faced by Uplay and that gamers might be unable to join a number of video games and to connect with friends.

The company is unsure when the issues can be solved, but all those who want to get constant updates need to check the official status site.

Microsoft states, “are you having trouble using the uPlay feature on games like Watch Dogs, Trials Fusion, Child of Light and Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag? We are working with our partner to get the issue resolved as quickly as possible. Thanks for your patience. We'll update you on our progress as soon as we have more information.”

Uplay is a service created by Ubisoft, mimicking Valve’s Steam in many ways, in order to create a central hub for all the video games it launches and to make sure that the impact of piracy on the PC decreases.

Unfortunately, the concept has never become popular and the company has failed to make it sturdy enough to deal with major launches, like the recent Watch Dogs.

The game is affected by a number of problems and many players are reporting that they are unable to connect to the server and get it running for more than a few seconds.

Ubisoft has not said when it expects the Uplay problems to be solved and if it plans to compensate gamers in any way.

At the same time, Microsoft adds, “We understand some of you are having a hard time viewing certain content on the PBS application and we want you to know we are currently working alongside our partner to find a fix. Thanks for being patient during this process. Keep your eyes open, we'll have an update when more information is available.”

Since the Xbox One was launched, the company has emphasized the increasing importance of the Xbox Live service, which is being used to power multiplayer gaming and to deliver a wide variety of multimedia content.

The company tries to limit downtime as much as possible, but it has no control over situations that involve third-party created software like Uplay.

Watch Dogs has been receiving solid reviews since it was launched, but even a successful title cannot generate sales in the long term if players are unable to actually play it.
