The real battle will be linked to exclusive game launches

Alan Bowman, the Microsoft Australia vice president in charge of retail sales and marketing, says that the hardware differences between the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 are small and that the true battle for next-gen domination will be linked to future exclusive video games.

He is quoted by VG247 as saying that, “We’ve got a unique value proposition, and from just a pure specs perspective it’s always gonna be a fairly marginal difference. The purists are gonna argue the toss, but I think it comes down to the games.”

Before launch, both Sony and Microsoft bragged that their devices offered the most power to the developer community and that they would also accommodate complex entertainment experiences.

Since then, the two companies have switched their focus on games, despite the fact that the launch line-up for the two home consoles has failed to deliver any blockbusters.

Bowman adds, “You’re gonna see great exclusive games on Xbox One, and when you look at the cross-platform games, and there’s gonna be exclusive content on Xbox One. We’d like to be in more markets – this is a global business – but it’s also a long-term business, and we’ll progressively launch in more markets over the coming year.”

The big coming launch for the Xbox One is Titanfall, the new multiplayer-focused shooter from Respawn Entertainment that is also set to be launched on the PC and on the Xbox 360.

The game is designed to revolutionize the shooter genre with some cool new movement options and 6 versus 6 matches that include a focus on AI and mech use.

Microsoft has also promised that it has more exclusives lined up for the second half of the year.

More information about Halo 5 should also be offered soon, but the game will probably only be available at some point in 2016 on the Xbox One.
