In today's environment Macs have provided a medium secure from malware threats and online attacks, while Windows OS has taken the stage and is the focus of such attempts. But it seems that with Microsoft transition to Mac, the vulnerabilities have also found their way onto the otherwise secure Mac operating systems.

It is the case of Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac. It applies to Office 2004 Standard Edition, Office 2004 Student and Teacher Edition, Office 2004 Professional Edition, Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac, Microsoft Excel 2004 for Mac, Microsoft PowerPoint 2004 for Mac, Entourage 2004.

The Redmond Company has as of yesterday issued an update for several security vulnerabilities in Office 2004 for Mac and for Entourage 2004 for Mac. Microsoft also bundled together all previous updates released for Office 2004 for Mac.

Available in eight different languages, Mac users must first verify that the update is compatible with their machines, as the computers must meet certain requirements: "Mac OS X-compatible processor that is a model G3 or a later model, operating system: Mac OS X 10.2.8 (Jaguar) or a later version of Mac OS; if you want to use Spotlight, Sync Services, or smart cards, you must be running Mac OS X 10.4.3 (Tiger) or a later version and 256 MB of RAM," states a message posted on the Microsoft site.

Users that will install the update will fend off the possibility of an attacker overwriting their computer's memory with malicious code.
