Microsoft has released an update for the Mac version of Office 2004.

Besides 'improved overall security and stability' when using the applications themselves, this update will also add new functionality by using Mac OS X Sync services and Spotlight searches to synchronize and find Entourage items and use smartcards from within Entourage. The update is a 'combo', meaning it includes all of the improvements released in the previous Office 2004 updates.

Microsoft has also released Messenger for Mac 5.1.

The instant messaging application works with two types of communication services, the personal account and the corporate account. Personal accounts work with MSN Messenger service on the Microsoft Passport Network, while the corporate accounts work with the Microsoft Office Live Communications Server service.

Instant message conversations with other corporate account users are not limited to people who are also using Microsoft's Messenger, but can also work with users who have other instant messaging services, such as AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Yahoo Messenger, and iChat users who are signed in with AOL accounts.

While these updates are nice for those who make use of these programs, the community at large is eager to hear on the progress of the Universal versions of Microsoft applications.
