Microsoft has re-issued completely patch 911280 (MS06-025) that fixed a critical Windows Routing and Remote Access vulnerability but rendered inoperable dial-up connections that used a terminal window, or dial-up scripting.

The vulnerability fixed by the patch was one of the eight deemed critical because it allowed for remote code execution. The security patch was affecting the RASMAN service of the combination between Remote Access Service and Multi-Protocol Routing that amount to the Routing and Remote Access Service.

Initially, the Redmond company has advised its consumers not to apply the patch if it was going to interfere with their dial-up connection and to restrict access to vulnerable ports until an update release. MS06-025 came with a flavor of urgency because of numerous attempts to exploit the Routing and Remote Access vulnerability. The updated version of the patch targets users directly affected by the initial installation of MS06-025. Microsoft advices users that have run successfully the 12 security patches package not to update MS06-025, as this is not necessary.

"I want to thank everyone out there for working with our folks in Product Support Services as well as the feedback we received at the MSRC indicating that there may have been an issue. I definitely want to thank everyone even more for their patience while the guys over in Windows Sustained Engineering having been living and breathing RRAS for the last week getting it all sorted out," said Adrian Stone, a Microsoft representative.
