Yesterday, at the 2010 PASS Summit, Microsoft presented the newest SQL Server called 'Denali', with a CTP build that is available for download, and also made available the SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse, with the new Microsoft Critical Advantage Program.

'Denali' should provide a reliable platform for supporting massive workloads and increasing developed and IT efficiency, as well as self-service BI management.

The Microsoft SQL Server Denali, is all about assessing business needs, this is why it will include SQL Server AlwaysOn – an integrated solution for reducing downtime, a project called 'Crescent' – a Web-based tool for data visualization and reporting which extends PowerPivot, and new means of strengthening data management and integration.

Ted Kummert, senior vice president, Business Platform Division at Microsoft, said that “enterprises today are facing challenges of increasing volumes of data from which they need to gain business insight rapidly.

“SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse provides high-scale enterprise capabilities delivered as an appliance with choice and deployment simplicity.”

SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse is programmed to simplify the organization of all data warehouse needs by enabling distributed query processing at the highest level of performance.

And thanks to Microsoft's partnership with HP, the customers have a large choice in hardware for the Parallel Data Warehouse appliance.

Also, the exchange and use of information with the Microsoft Business Intelligence (BI) platform, allows customers to deliver managed self-service BI solutions to everyone in the organization.

Paul Miller, vice president, Solutions and Strategic Alliances, Enterprise Servers, Storage and Networking at HP, said that “customers need a single view and access point to information across the enterprise without performance impact.

“HP Enterprise Data Warehouse Appliance, which is built on HP Converged Infrastructure and optimized for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse, improves data access with massive scalability and faster query times than traditional SQL Server databases.”

The SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse comes with the Microsoft Critical Advantage Program (MCAP), which is a pack of pretested hardware and software configurations, that will make customers' life easier.

It also includes a mission-critical support option with 30-minute response times, a service delivery plan, an escalation manager, enhanced critical situation process and a dedicated support engineer, all designed to increase customers’ business efficiency and make it more cost-effective, risk-resistant and competitive.

The HP Enterprise Data Warehouse Appliance will be available in December 2010 through HP, and you can find out more information on SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse at http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver.
