Gamers will have to wait for the game to launch to download it

Video game hardware maker Microsoft says that the announcement that the much-awaited Titanfall will be offered for pre-load on the Xbox One before its official launch date was an error and gamers will only be able to download it after the official release date.

A Microsoft representative is quoted by Polygon as saying that, “We believe in digital distribution, and are proud to give gamers a variety of ways to purchase and experience their games. However, pre-purchase and pre-download for Titanfall for Xbox One will not be available from Xbox Store.”

The company is not saying exactly why the official description for Titanfall on its online store mentioned a pre-load option and why gamers were not notified quicker that it was just a mistake.

Plenty of gamers were ready to spend the time required to download the 15.88 GB title before it was launched in order to play it as soon as it was unlocked.

The company representative adds, “We’ll continue to strike a balance between digital distribution and its benefits, while supporting physical games purchase through our retail partners. The pre-purchase offer page was posted in error. We apologize for any confusion.”

Since the Xbox One was announced, Microsoft has hyped up the extensive abilities of its cloud-based technologies, but it seems that pre-load is not one of them at the moment.

Vince Zampella, the leader of developer Respawn Entertainment, has previously suggested that Titanfall will be offered for pre-load on the PC via Origin, but no official announcement has been made so far.

The game will be out on March 11 in the United States and two days later in Europe on the Xbox One and the PC.

Players who want to get access to the experience on the Xbox 360 will have to wait an extra two weeks.
