Redmond-based software giant Microsoft has just unveiled some more details on the status of software updates being distributed to devices running under its Windows Phone 7 operating system.

Among them, the company mentioned the HTC Surround smartphone on the airwaves of AT&T in the United States, which is already receiving the update.

This is the third and last Windows Phone 7 device on AT&T's network to receive the software update. The other two tasted it a few weeks ago, though it seems that the process was not successful for all users out there.

Apparently, a small number of Samsung Focus owners still have to receive the update, as they were not even notified on its availability until now.

Microsoft says that they are aware of this, and that they would try to fix the problem in the shortest period of time possible.

Eric Hautala, GM, Customer Experience Engineering, Microsoft, notes the following on the matter:

To accommodate high demand for the Focus last year, two separate sources of flash memory components were required during manufacturing. Focus models are identical in all other ways.

Most Focus owners are receiving our updates. But some customers with handsets containing the alternative memory component aren’t. We’re now working closely with Samsung and AT&T to test and deliver an update for this group.

While most carriers have already scheduled and started delivery of the update, there still are some which remained behind, including those in Australia, though things are finally moving in the right direction here as well.

Windows Phone NoDo, or the March update, as Microsoft calls it, is being delivered at the moment to Optus customers, and is being scheduled to delivery for Telstra's users as well.

And there are also the Samsung Omnia 7 owners, who would still have to wait a little longer before the software update is being delivered to them. The phone was included in the initial roll-out, but Microsoft halted deployment for it.

“As some of you know, we recently halted delivery of updates to Samsung Omnia 7s after learning of a technical issue that required a new update software package. The new package is nearly ready, and we’re eager to resume updates to this model,” Eric Hautala stated.
