Windows 8.1 is just around the corner, so the employees over at Microsoft took some time to discuss the app improvements included in the operating system, explaining that all programs have been designed in such a way that they can be used on both desktops and tablets.

For example, Redmond claims that Windows 8.1 provides you with all the tools you need to successfully complete the process of taking a photo and editing it on your computer.

“Every step from capturing to sharing is a delightful, fast, and easy experience – and you have all the great editing capabilities of the photo app built right into the camera app,” Microsoft said.

At the same time, the software company also praised Fresh Paint and Movie Moments, both of which are available as a free download from the Store.

“Real life moments can be unpredictable, so when taking videos we often take a bunch of extra footage. Sometimes these videos sit dormant on our devices – when just a few edits would make the video instantly shareable! Movie Moments is a simple app that helps tell the story of the interesting moment in your video. Within moments, trim the video, add short captions, and put in some music and now you’ll have a short clip that you’ll want to share!” it noted.

Windows 8.1 is set to go live on October 18 and it will be offered to adopters of the new Windows 8 free of charge. The new OS will be available from the Windows Store, while pre-Windows 8 users can download and install it after paying for a full license.

The core version will be available for $119.99 (€90), while the Pro package will have a price tag of $199.99 (€150). Windows 8.1 will be available both online via Microsoft’s official website and offline at retailers across the world.
