14 DAY TRIAL // Back in 2014, when Microsoft officially completed the takeover of Nokia’s Devices and Services unit, the company also purchased some other assets, including the rights over the iconic Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, which hosted several important events, such as the Emmys and the MTV Movie Awards.
But starting today, Nokia won’t be hosting any other events in Los Angeles because Microsoft will take care of everything, as the Redmond-based tech giant took over the Nokia Theater and renamed it to Microsoft Theater.
This does make sense, given the last year’s acquisition, so it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that the surrounding plaza that spans over 40,000 square feet has also been renamed to Microsoft Square.
In an announcement today, Microsoft says that the whole place will be renovated starting this fall, so it could soon become the company’s top location for hosting events for its products.

"As technology continues to transform the live entertainment business, I couldn't think of a better partner to help us create an even better experience for our fans…both on the stage and throughout Microsoft Theater."
First opened in October 2007
The Nokia Theater opened its doors in October 2007 and was the host of several big shows, including more than 700 concerns, shows, product launches, and annual awards events.
As the press release states, the Primetime EMMY Awards, ESPY Awards, BET Awards, American Music Awards, People's Choice Awards, 2010 & 2011 MTV Video Music Awards and 2014 & 2015 MTV Movie Awards have all been hosted at Nokia’s location in Los Angeles.
Needless to say, it can now become Microsoft’s favorite place for launching new products, so once the renovation is complete, expect the company to host some of its next events in Los Angeles.
