Microsoft is said to be working on its very own smartwatch and, according to people close to the development process, such a device could be launched later this year if everything goes according to plan.

While Redmond remains tight-lipped on the subject, designers across the world waste no time and use the available information to create concepts envisioning the upcoming smartwatch, which may or may not run a new version of the Windows operating system specifically designed for very small displays.

Such is the case of this so-called Lumia Smart Watch Mark II concept created by Omar Pirela, who says that Microsoft's upcoming device could go well beyond what we've seen in the wearables market until now.

As you can see for yourselves by hitting the play button below, the concept uses elements that are very unlikely to make it to the smartwatch if Microsoft wants to make the device as affordable as possible, including the magnesium ceramic body and the high-quality display.

Here's the full description of the concept, as presented by its creator:

"This is a different approach for a Windows #Wearable design concept, Magnesium Ceramic body, curved touchscreen amoled, 100 mts water resistant, streamlined profile, because this doesn´t have a camera is slimmer than the Lumia Smart Watch. The color is present but more subtle, only in the border of the screen and center os the strap. Is more discrete and luxurious, with better graphics and very useful notification and a simplified navigation. The Windows embosed logo and the sligthy shiny surface offers a clear statement in your wrist, discrete elegance."

The concept isn't new, but it was brought to our attention by the editors over at WMPowerUser and, given the fact that so many people are already excited with the prospect of getting a Microsoft smartwatch, could help us envision one of the most awaited products of the year.

Sources familiar with the matter said that Microsoft's smartwatch could get along with most mobile platforms on the market, including iOS and Android smartphones. At the same time, it might come in the form of a wristband with a detachable display, which could allow easy charging with the help of a dock.

The smartwatch is expected to debut in October, with prices to start at around $199 (€150) if the existing speculation is true. Of course, all of these are just rumors, so take them with a grain of salt until Microsoft breaks the news on this exciting project.
