Microsoft launched the Surface Pro 2 tablet in October 2013 with several hardware upgrades, including a new 1.6GHz Core i5-4200U processor specifically optimized for longer battery life and increased performance.

And still, three months later, the company decided to upgrade the CPU with a 1.9GHz Core i5-4300U unit that would be capable of taking these improvements even further and provide advanced capabilities for all users.

Surprisingly however, the company is still shipping the old models to buyers, even though Microsoft has promised to deliver only upgraded models featuring the new CPU.

A story posted by PC Pro and citing a British Surface buyer reveals that, despite giving assurance that all customers are provided with the upgraded models, the software giant is still shipping old versions of the tablet with the original CPU unit.

According to the aforementioned report, the Surface buyer called Microsoft and asked for information regarding the processor, with the local staff clearly explaining that all tablets are equipped with the new CPU. And still, after buying a Surface Pro 2, the specs showed the i5-4200 processor, which is actually the original unit installed on tablets which launched in October.

“It was suggested to me that I wait a week or so and then call back, as they were expecting the tablets with the new processors to be available very soon,” the buyer was quoted as saying.

One month later however, after purchasing a new Surface Pro 2 tablet, Microsoft delivered the same old model, again without the CPU upgrade that the company announced in January 2014.

“So, on 6 February, I made the venture again and called Microsoft. Again I asked which processor was in the Surface Pro 2, and again I was absolutely assured that it was the i5-4300. I purchased one, and you already know the outcome of this: I received another Surface Pro 2 with an i5-4200 processor!”

Microsoft’s online store does not provide too many details regarding the CPU installed on the Surface Pro 2, but the website states that all tablets come with the 4th generation Intel Core i5 Processor. At the same time, it also features 4GB or 8GB of RAM, depending on the storage option you choose, a 10.6-inch full HD display, Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n) connectivity, and Bluetooth 4.0 support.

Several connectivity options are also being offered, including a full-size USB 3.0 port, a microSD card reader, mini DisplayPort, and a cover port that supports multiple accessories.
