Microsoft rolled out a new firmware update for the Surface Pro 2 earlier this month as part of the Patch Tuesday cycle, trying to improve some of the features available on the tablet, while also improving battery life and performance.

As we’ve told you in the last few days, many of the users who installed the update actually experienced issues with it, with no workarounds offered by the Redmond-based tech giant.

It turns out that Microsoft has acknowledged the problems and decided to remove the firmware update completely, just to make sure that no one else installs it in the meantime.

A new version of the firmware update is expected to be launched after the holidays, Microsoft says, which probably means that the Surface Pro 2 will get new improvements as part of the January 2014 Patch Tuesday rollout.

“To ensure the best experience for our customers during the holiday season, we have taken steps to remove the update for Surface Pro 2 that was previously published through Windows Update on December 10th, 2013. We are working to release an alternative update package after the holidays,” a company support engineer said in a post on the Microsoft Community forums.

Among the problems experienced by users with the firmware update, it’s worth mentioning an error causing the new release to fail to install, as well as glitches that woke the devices from sleep at random times.

At the same time, users reported issues with battery life, even though it’s not yet clear whether these issues have been caused by the same buggy firmware update or not.

At this point, the new firmware version is no longer delivered via the integrated Windows Update, so you can’t install it anymore, which means that you’re basically on the safe side. Users who already deployed it and do not experience any issues are not affected by this firmware removal.
