A bug prevents users from upgrading from build 10080

Good news for Windows Insiders, as Microsoft has just announced that it will release the next Windows 10 Mobile build tomorrow, June 16.

The company ran a poll on Twitter earlier today asking Windows Insider members if they would want Microsoft to release Windows 10 Mobile build 10136 immediately to the Fast ring or wait until an upgrading bug is fixed.

“Hey Windows Insiders, we have a conundrum and need your input. Build 10136 for Phone looks really great, except for one problem. We have a bug upgrading from 10080.

“So our choices are: 1. Go to Fast anyway, require you to WPRT back to 8.1 2. or keep working on it, probably holding it by a week. Upgrade is very important to test, but we think people would like to have this build too,” said Gabriel Aul.

The new build will not work on smartphones running version 10080

Based on the feedback received, Gabriel Aul has confirmed that “given that people who don't want to roll back to 8.1 won't have to,” Microsoft will release Windows 10 Mobile build 10136 to Fast ring as soon as possible.

According to Aul, the team will need about 24 hours “to re-stage the hops from supported phones,” in order to release Windows 10 Mobile build 10136. This means that the new build should go live tomorrow, June 16, if nothing wrong happens.

Keep in mind that in order to get build 10136 on your smartphone, you should make sure that you do not opt back into Fast ring until the new Windows 10 Mobile build is live if you go back to Windows Phone 8.1, because that will put you again on build 10080.

Build 10080 doesn't allow you to upgrade to the next version of Windows 10 Mobile, which is why Microsoft was still holding the update.

Since Windows Insiders voted for the update to go live as soon as possible, you should make sure that you're not on build 10080, otherwise you won't be able to upgrade to the new version.
