Microsoft today rolled out a major OneDrive update that makes it easier for users to manage the files stored in the cloud using the web interface, while also implementing a few changes for the Android client.

The company says that this new major update is based on customer feedback, so it comes with bigger thumbnails to check out the photos and videos saved in your OneDrive account without actually opening them.

“Viewing photos as small thumbnails can be a strain on the eyes. To make the photos and videos you care about easier to see, we’ve increased the size of thumbnails to create a more beautiful view of your photos and videos. We’ve also added your videos to the All Photos view to make it easier to find and watch the videos you love,” Microsoft explained the decision to change the size of thumbnails.

At the same time, video playback should also be smoother starting today, the company promises, while support for more browsers and mobile phones is also being offered.

Starting with this new update, OneDrive also supports album cover customization, which basically means that you are allowed to select one of the photos in your account to use as a static cover photo for a specific folder. All you need to do is to click “Manage” and then click on “Add as cover.”

If you're one of the many Facebook users out there who happen to have a OneDrive account, the update released today makes it possible to publish videos on the social network straight from the web interface.

“A few months ago we made it possible to natively publish photos on OneDrive to Facebook. This update brings the ability for you to also publish videos to Facebook too!” Microsoft explained, emphasizing that this is one of the most user-requested features.

Last but not least, the new version of OneDrive improves sharing features but letting you add more items to a previously-shared collection, without the need to reconfigure the entire folder.

“Now we offer the ability to add more items after you’ve already shared the original grouping. Just go to your Shared view, right click on the group that you want to modify, and select Add,” the company says.

As mentioned, all these features are part of the web interface, but expect the official clients available on Windows 8.1 and iOS to be updated with these changes anytime soon.
