We are just testing for now, Microsoft says in a statement

We’ve already told you that Microsoft is adding more Aero-like effects in Windows 10 in an attempt to make the desktop feel more like home for Windows 7 users, but the company has now provided some information to explain why some of us get these effects and some don’t.

In a blog post today, Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, said that only 50 percent of the users see the new blur effect on the Start menu and the taskbar because the company is still testing this design to determine whether it should be rolled out to everyone or not.

Depending on user feedback, Microsoft could make a decision before the next build arrives, so this way more users could get it. Or not, obviously depending on the feedback that users provide.

We could all get it in May

Obviously, pretty much everyone likes the blur effect in the Start menu, so expect this feature to be released to everyone with the next Windows 10 build.

“We’ve also heard loud in clear that many Windows Insiders want to see Aero Glass from Windows 7 make a comeback. We’ve been working out how to satisfy this request, and are trying some things out with this build to see how you like them,” Aul explained.

“We’re running a little A/B test with this build. 50% of you will normal transparency on the Start menu and taskbar while the other 50% will see a blur effect on the Start menu and taskbar (like frosted glass). If Windows Insiders really like the blur effect, we will add it to more areas and even consider making it the default instead of standard transparency.”

Right now, there are no details as to when a new build of Windows 10 could come out with the blur effect for all users, but given the fact that Microsoft has pledged to update the technical preview more often, expect an update to be provided in May.

The latest build that you can get is 10074 and it’s available via Windows Update for both slow and fast ring users enrolled in the Windows Insider program.
