Should release it before the year's end

The third Power Pack for Windows Home Server won't come around the same time Windows 7 will, a recent post on the Windows Home Server Blog announced recently. As many of you might already know, Microsoft released the beta flavor of Windows Home Server Power Pack 3 back in July, and it seems that it will deliver the final version sometime before the end of the ongoing year. In case all goes according to plan, that is.

For those who might not know what Windows Home Server and its Power Packs are all about, we should say that the former is meant to enable users to easily manage, share and automatically back up their important files, including photos, videos, music, and other documents. As any other software solution, the Windows Home Server is being improved through the release of updates, which come in the form of Power Packs, the same as Microsoft's Windows OS receives Service Packs.

While the third Power Pack for Windows Home Server is available for download in beta since July, the work on the final flavor won't be completed in due time to have it released along with Windows 7, it seems: “our top priority is to ensure the absolute highest level of product quality, and to this end, we will continue with additional testing of the software. As with past software releases, our team will not ship the official final release of Power Pack 3 until the community has validated our work,” is what Nicole Berett notes on the Windows Home Server Blog.

There are a wide range of features that Power Pack 3 is expected to bring along, including full image-based backups of Windows 7 PCs, Windows 7 libraries support, Windows Search 4, or Windows Media Center enhancements. Those of you who already have several Windows 7 PCs at home or plan on having them as soon as the platform is available for purchase on October 22 should give Windows Home Server and its beta Power Pack 3 a try, for it might just make your life a lot easier when it comes to organizing files.
