One of the best camera phones still available on the market, the Lumia 1020, can only be rivaled by Nokia 808 PureView with its monster 41-megapixel camera that features the company's innovative imaging technology.

Since Nokia Lumia 1020 was launched on the market back in July 2013, many Windows Phone fans have hoped that Microsoft will eventually refresh the lineup with new devices aimed at photographers or users with a taste for state-of-the-art pictures.

However, there were no indications whatsoever that Microsoft might have a Lumia 1020 successor in the works, on the contrary. The Redmond-based company is now focusing on releasing Windows 10 on July 29 and Windows 10 Mobile sometime in September.

The rumor mill confirmed the upcoming release of two high-end smartphones, which we are now referring to as Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL, but there was no info on a third device that Microsoft might announce this year.

The unannounced Lumia 1020 successor will pack a PureView camera

Well, it looks like famous leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks), who got it right most of the times, has just teased us with a blurry picture of a huge module camera that looks almost exactly like the one inside the Lumia 1020.

Although he's pretty cryptic in his tweet ("Don't give up hope, Windows fans"), there's no doubt that the image is a strong reference to a Lumia 1020 successor.

Unfortunately, no other details on the unannounced device have been leaked, but since we have just discovered that the Lumia 1020 successor is real, we expect more info to emerge in the coming weeks.

If Microsoft does indeed plan to launch another powerful camera phone with Windows 10 Mobile on board, it will be interesting to see whether the company will launch it along with its other two high-end smartphones or early next year. Stay tuned for more on this one.
