Microsoft will probably release tablets that “know” where your hands are

Microsoft is looking to completely change the way we use tablets or Ultrabooks in the next few years. Testimony to this endeavor is a new patent filed by the Redmond tech giant.

The patent describes a device equipped with intelligent bezels capable of “understanding” where exactly your hands are located. Based on this information, the gadget will be able to provide screen augmentation for the particular area you are using. This translates into users being provided with a touch-based keyboard or other needed enhancements.

The patent includes some images showcasing a tablet with sensors implemented into the bezel itself, which is capable of locating your hands and display a split-thumb keyboard, for example.

If Microsoft ends up embedding the technology into their Surface range, it will certainly provide an upper-hand for the company in its eternal quest of taking down Apple, Google and other tech giants.

The patent application is entitled “Grip-Based Device Adaptations” and has originally been filled back in May 2013.
