Microsoft has been working on making its latest operating systems more connected than before, and one new feature discovered in Windows Phone 8 confirms that.

Apparently, users will be able to easily sync their SMS and MMS messages to Hotmail or Outlook.com, so as to be able to access them from more places.

In addition to that, Windows Phone 8 will come with the option to automatically backup and upload photos and videos from the handset to SkyDrive.

The feature can be enabled right from the start, when the user sets up the Windows Phone 8 device for everyday use.

A splash screen will appear, encouraging owners of a Windows Phone device to connect with a Microsoft account (the same as in WP7), which will provide them with the possibility to keep their data synced with the cloud.

This includes photos, contacts, music, documents, and more, and represents a good option when it comes to making sure that no important files are lost.

Starting with Windows Phone 8, however, users are also informed that signing in with a Microsoft account will provide them with the possibility to have all data synced with their PC and Xbox as well.

Through SkyDrive, all owners of a Windows Phone device will be able to easily share data between their handsets and an Xbox console, a recent article on The Verge notes.

The backup and syncing capabilities of the mobile OS are also said to include the possibility to have a series of settings (like themes, accounts, and Internet Explorer favorites) synced between devices.

Moreover, the backup capabilities will include the syncing of app lists and individual app settings, the news site claims.

Other mobile platforms out there already come with a series of similar backup capabilities, and users of Windows Phone 8 will certainly welcome them on their new devices.

However, we’ll still have to wait for Microsoft to unveil specific details on the matter, something that could happen as soon as today, at the press event it will be hosting together with Nokia.
