Redmond is trying to boost its online sales with a deal with eBay

Microsoft has recently announced the opening of an eBay online store that’s supposed to help the company boost sales across the United States.

The new online store will provide access to the company’s latest products, including Surface and Xbox, and is obviously supposed to help the tech giant make the most of the upcoming holiday shopping season that’s scheduled to begin on Black Friday November 29.

“Our customers continue to tell us they want more choice, value and service and appreciate how our stores connect them to the best of Microsoft. This delights us to no end,” Microsoft said.

“By working with eBay, a top global shopping destination with more than 124 million active users globally, even more customers can now purchase their favorite Microsoft first-party products including Surface and Xbox, as well as accessories. Our customers can expect the same safe online shopping experience, return policy and free shipping from the Microsoft Store on eBay that they’ve come to expect on microsoftstore.com.”

Microsoft’s new strategy pretty much makes sense, especially because the company has been hard at work to open new locations across the United States and make its products available to more users.

The company has recently launched the second-generation Surface family and is getting ready to introduce the Xbox One gaming console, so getting closer to potential buyers is clearly the right thing to do right now.

According to rumors that reached the web earlier this year, Redmond is also planning an expansion of its retail network in non-US locations, with some voices familiar with the matter hinting that European stores are on the table right now.

Microsoft hasn’t yet commented on such plans, but it’s pretty clear that the company needs a larger retail network to support its marketing efforts for products such as Surface and Windows.
