In plain sight

You want the truth? You can't handle the truth! You want to talk about the future of Windows? Well, Microsoft wants to put a gag on the next version of Windows while shoving Windows Vista down your throats. Well, maybe they put it more mildly, by stressing the fact that Microsoft is focusing on what Windows Vista will bring to the table, and keeping Vista's successor in the background.

Ben Fathi, corporate vice president of development with Microsoft's Windows Core Operating System Division revealed that the Redmond Company will deliver a Vista follow-up by the end of 2009, at the 2007 RSA Conference in San Francisco. As a result, yesterday, the Redmond Company issued an official response to the speculations surrounding the next version of Windows.

Microsoft's take on the matter is that, up until when they feel "ready," customers and media will be kept in the dark about the whole thing. Microsoft did not deny in any way either rumors about Windows Vienna or Windows 7. In fact, how can they deny it when they are the ones offering proof of the existence of Windows 7.

"Do you want to be at the forefront of driving a Windows release from a planning and quality perspective? Join the Windows Engineering and Release Management team and be at the center of the Windows 7 release effort," reads a fragment of a job posting on Microsoft's US website.

Yes, I wonder where did the press get a hold of all the speculations related to Windows 7? Where oh where? I can't really put my finger on it. Oh wait, it's in plain sight over at Microsoft. But it's a good thing that the Redmond Company is not ready to talk about Windows 7.
