The often criticized icons are here to stay, it seems

Microsoft's new icons, which were introduced in build 9926 and which were subject to a number of changes, are very likely to be part of the upcoming Windows 10 Technical Preview release too, despite all promises that they could be replaced with new ones in the near future.

For starters, Microsoft introduced a new set of icons in build 9926 that were supposed to make the desktop and the operating system altogether look more modern and fresh.

That never happened, actually, and many adopters out there actually criticized the company for the design it pushed to insiders in this build. Many have described the new icons as childish, while some have told Microsoft that they're ready to give up on Windows 10 unless new icons are introduced (yes, some have really gone that far with the criticism).

Same icons in build 10036

Now that we're only a few days ahead of the debut of a new Windows 10 build, everyone's wondering what the version number of this release actually is.

Russian leaker WZor says that build 10036 is very likely to be the one to ship to insiders anytime soon, and to prove his point, he even posted a collection of screenshots revealing this particular version in action.

Interestingly, the very same icons are part of this build number as well, despite all the criticism, despite users' requests, and despite Gabe Aul's promise that some changes could be implemented because “what we're seeing is just an early build of the new UI.”

As you can see in this screenshot, which is actually made in build 10036, the new Recycle Bin icon, which some people designed in only a couple of minutes in Paint or MS Word, is still there, so in case you really hate it, you have to either live with it or replace it with a third-party design after installing the new build.

As for the release of this build to the public, it remains to be seen if Microsoft is ready to ship it today, but sources say that it's either Friday or the next week, so we won't have to wait more than 7 days to get it. Fingers crossed for today.
