Those affected by the problem may want to try and update again

The first major update for Windows Phone 8.1 has just started to roll out earlier this week, but a small percentage of users haven’t been able to install the so-called GDR1 update.

One of the most frequent errors received by these users is 8018830f and the only solution would be to hard reset the phone and follow a pretty long and tedious process to bring back the smartphone to its previous state.

Microsoft acknowledged the issue since many Windows Phone users flooded the company’s forum with reports of this error. However, it’s been more than two days since error 8018830f is preventing users from upgrading to Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 and Microsoft is still mum on the matter.

According to Joe Belfiore, “Folks seeing error 8018830f on update- we're looking into it, thx for letting us know. It’s a very small %, so the rest of you keep going!” This message was tweeted two days ago, but the company did not share any additional details since then.

The good news is Microsoft may have just fixed this problem or is very close to finding a solution to it, as many Windows Phone users who couldn’t install Update 1 are now reporting on WPCentral forums that they were finally able to upgrade to the latest version of the operating system.

However, there are still some people who are met with the same error and can’t install Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 on their smartphones, which means Microsoft is actively working on squashing this bug which is preventing users from upgrading.

This is probably one of the reasons why Microsoft has not issued an official statement yet to confirm that the error 8018830f has been fixed.

Still, those affected by the issue may want to try to install the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 once again and see what happens. Don’t forget to let us know if you manage to successfully capture and install the update.

Keep in mind that if you own a HTC 8X or HTC 8S smartphone, fixing error 8018830f will not help you get this update. Microsoft halted the Windows Phone 8.1 Update rollout for HTC devices, as they found a bug that needs to be fixed.

While testing for HTC 8X is still underway, the Taiwanese company announced that the HTC 8S will never receive Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 due to some hardware limitations. The exact reasons haven’t been detailed, but we expect more info to emerge in the coming days.
