Microsoft today launched the new Snap Attack game for Windows 8.1 devices, a new title based on the famous Wordament that's available on all both desktop computers and tablets.

The idea behind this new game is basically the same as in Wordament's case: you need to score points by building words using the letters placed on the tablet, so the more words you create, the better your score is going to be.

Of course, Xbox leaderboards are also part of the game in order to compete with friends and other players in your area, while achievements make the entire experience a little bit more challenging for everyone.

“Wordament Snap Attack is a brand-new, fast-paced word-building tournament that challenges your brain in 2 1/2-minute rounds. Players from around the world compete on the same board, using the same clock, making as many Snaps as possible. At the end of each round, a real-time leaderboard shows how all participants ranked by score,” Microsoft said in the description of the game.

“In Wordament Snap Attack, score points by building words with colored movable letter tiles that connect to fixed black letter tiles on the game board. Snaps are valid words that can be read from left to right or top to bottom. The more tiles a Snap includes, the more points it’s worth.”

Snap Attack is a universal app, which means that it's available on both Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1, so you can play it across multiple devices, including desktops, tablets, and smartphones running Microsoft's modern operating systems. Of course, it's offered with a freeware license and can be found right now in the Windows Store and Windows Phone Store.

Wordament, on the other hand, is one of the most popular games in the Windows Store right now and it already received nearly 7,000 ratings and an overall 4-star score. The feature lineup is pretty similar and requires you to find the most words on different playing boards, while also being required to compete against friends across the Internet.

Wordament also has Xbox support for achievements and leaderboards, while support is being offered for both desktop computers and tablets, so you can play it with a mouse or using touch.

Overall, there is absolutely no doubt that today's release is clearly a terrific addition to the Windows Store, so download Snap Attack right now to give it a shot and compete with other players from all over the world.
