Coming in February

Microsoft really knows how to peddle its warez. After all, even if Killzone 2 is coming out at the end of February, Sony is pretty quiet on that game, while Gears of War 2 is still being promoted despite the fact that it was launched more than two months ago. The new promotion is called “13 Days of Gears” and is aimed at those who are playing the game in multiplayer.

The promotion will reward those who play the game mode Microsoft designates for each day. You need to sign up at Xbox.com/wbgow until January 31 in order to take part in the 13 Days of Gears and then play at least one multiplayer match in the game designated by Microsoft.

The prizes are pretty interesting and include: a Samsung 40" 1080p LCD HDTV; an Xbox 360 Limited Edition Red Wireless Controller; a Marcus Fenix bronze statue from Mindzeye Studios; a life-size Locust drone maquette from TriForce Sales; a “Gears of War 2” video game soundtrack from Sumthing Else; a Gears of War Aspho Fields novel; some codes to download the golden Hammerburst and Lancer and a “Gears of War 2” poster signed by members of the development team.

Each day will require those interested in the prizes to play a different game mode included in Gears of War 2. The thirteen days begin on February 1. Here are the game modes that will be played each day: Annex; Submission; Execution; Horde; King of the Hill; Guardian; Warzone; Wingman; King of the Hill; Wingman; Wingman; Horde; Horde. It's clear that the people at Microsoft have a certain preference for Horde mode, in which players need to hold out against wave after wave of Locust enemies. After all, it's the most played mode online, so that's got to count for something.

The promotion is likely to lead to a rise in the sales numbers of Gears of War 2, which was one of the best sold videogames for the Xbox 360 in 2008.
