Just because Windows 7 Build 7000 is a Beta release doesn't mean that Microsoft is not tending to its software. The Redmond company has already released security patches designed to resolve Critical vulnerabilities in the operating system, and has revealed that it will also offer updates for the operating system via Windows Update and Microsoft Update. Even at this stage in the development of Windows 7, the software giant is advising Beta testers to keep their copies of the operating system updated, in order to get the best out of what the next version of what Windows has to offer.

“We will offer updates for Windows 7 Beta and updated drivers through Windows Update and Microsoft Update. We strongly recommend that you keep your Windows 7 Beta computers up-to-date, because this will ensure you have the best experience previewing Windows 7 Beta,” a member of the MU team stated.

Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 was released to the general public on January 10, 2009. The company headquartered in Redmond, Washington, was initially planning a 2.5 million download limit for the Beta. When it decided to serve an unlimited number of Win 7 Beta downloads, it informed users that the bits would only be available for a couple of weeks. A single day ahead of the Windows 7 Beta availability cutoff date, Microsoft extended the program until February 10, 2008.

“Here are some tips for keeping your Windows 7 Beta computers up to date: Before you logon for the first time, you’ll see the prompt to 'Set Up Windows.' Make sure you select the recommended settings for Windows, so Important and Recommended updates are installed automatically. Go to the following Web site to configure Microsoft Update, http://beta.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate. When you check for updates using Microsoft Update, you get the same updates available through Windows Update, but you also get updates for other Microsoft software,” the MU team representative added.
