The latest version of Health application for Windows Phone handsets has just been released by Microsoft and judging by the new features and improvements in the changelog, it's a pretty important update.

We reported less than a week ago that Microsoft plans to bring support for sensors contained in Android, iOS and Windows Phone handsets in the next couple of weeks.

The new feature would open the application to other platforms and would allow those who prefer Microsoft Health over other tracking apps to take advantage of its benefits on smartphones powered by operating systems other than Windows Phone.

Today, the Health application for Windows Phone has been updated with a few new features and improvements, which should enhance the app's existent features while adding new ones.

First of all, the newest update for Health app for Windows Phone brings multi-device support, which means users will be able to track their steps and calories without the Microsoft Band, simply using the motion sensor on the phone they own.

Make sure you have a compatible device before trying out the new features

Keep in mind though that the motion tracking feature will only work with Windows Phone SensorCore devices, iPhone 5s and greater, as well as certain Android 4.4 phones and greater.

Next in line is the new Connected Apps feature, which allows Health app users to share their bike data with Strava and MapMyRide.

Last but not least, with the new Sleep feature the application will be able to auto-detect users' sleep without activating the Sleep tile.

Since the new version of Microsoft Health is already available in Windows Phone Store, it means those who own the required device will be able to take advantage of the new features beginning today.

You can now download Health for Windows Phone for free via Windows Phone Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Windows Phone 8.1 and up.
