Redmond is aware that testers are eagerly awaiting builds

Back in January, Microsoft promised to ship new Windows 10 builds to Windows Insiders at a faster pace, especially as we get closer to the official launch date of the new operating system, but it’s no secret that the wait, coupled with Redmond’s decision not to disclose any release date, is a pretty tough thing to deal with these days.

But despite the criticism, there’s a strong reason why Microsoft can't tell us when the next Windows 10 build could ship and, more importantly, why it takes so long before it actually becomes available for testers.

In a long blog post published today, Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, reveals that Microsoft has adopted a development model that actually puts testers at the core of the new OS, pointing out that Windows 10 is still work in development and accurate release dates of new builds can’t be provided.

Especially if they come across a major bug, that is, as the development team might need additional time to fix it before the new build actually lands on our computers.

“This is of course way worse than being early. We’d have let down people who were counting on us to deliver on the date we said we would,” Aul said.

“When we say a date, customers can count on that date”

With Windows 10 still in development, accurate release dates are something that can be barely provided right now, and Aul explains that new builds with new features are compiled every day.

If a release date is provided, the team has to stick to the most recent stable build, so development work might be easily affected by this, because the cadence of releasing new features and options could be impacted as well.

Last but not least, there’s also the risk of missing a date, and Aul says that Microsoft doesn’t want by any means to disappoint its users. “When we say a date, they can count on that date,” he points out.

So, when is the next Windows 10 build coming out? Hard to say, but hopefully, a new version will be released this month.
