Windows Live Mesh, a free service designed to help users synchronize files across all the computers they use, share files and photos, and remotely access their files from any other computer connected to the Internet, is now compatible with Mac OS X 10.7.

Microsoft today announced that “Windows Live Mesh for Mac brings Live Mesh and the previous version of Windows Live Sync together into one product.”

“With Windows Live Mesh for Mac, you can keep the folders you choose in sync across your computers (Mac and PC) so the files you need are always right there with you,” said the Redmond, California software giant.

Files in a shared synchronized folder can be accessed and changed by more than one person, but the administrator (account holder) must invite other people to use the folder in order for them to have permission to access it.

Windows Live Mesh supports multiple versions of Mac OS X, including Leopard, Snow Leopard and, thanks to the latest update, OS X Lion.

Lion is the eighth major version of Mac OS X and is available as a $29.99 upgrade for Snow Leopard users.

Lion blends key features from iOS with those that make OS X the most advanced desktop operating system out there.

Windows Live Mesh works only on Intel-based Mac computers, which means PowerPC-based systems are not compatible with the software.

Neither is any Intel system running Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger or earlier, Microsoft said.

A Windows Live ID is required to use Windows Live Mesh for Mac and reap the benefits of services like Hotmail, Messenger, Xbox LIVE, and other Microsoft offerings.

Before installing Windows Live Mesh for Mac, users are advised to quit or uninstall any previous versions of Windows Live Sync or Live Mesh running on their computer.
