The upcoming iteration of Microsoft Dynamics NAV is planned for availability by the end of 2010. Directions EMEA 2010 served as the stage where Microsoft announced that it planned to wrap up the successor of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 this year. According to the Redmond company, Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 will be offered to customers in the fourth quarter of 2010. A specific general availability deadline wasn’t provided.

Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 will be offered earlier than initially intended because of the investments made into the current version’s architecture. The evolution of the software giant’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions is slated to bring to the table software-plus-services capabilities, as well as have the Release 2 version of Dynamics NAV 2009 integrate seamlessly with Microsoft Dynamics CRM and online Payment Service.

“We’re delivering this release in response to customer and partner feedback,” Crispin Read, general manager of Microsoft Dynamics ERP at Microsoft, noted. “Microsoft is committed to continuously bringing forth innovation in our ERP solutions, including the integration with cloud services. These latest enhancements to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 are an important step in delivering solutions that drive real business productivity.”

In addition to Dynamics CRM integration and the Online Payment Service for Dynamics NAV, customers running the R2 Build will be able to enable remote access for users via the Microsoft Dynamics RoleTailored. Furthermore, the company is making sure that the Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 RoleTailored interface plays nice with Application Virtualization (App-V) when it comes down to deployments. Additional enhancements are related to Windows 7 integration and new Treemap visualization options.

“The new features in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 improve our business opportunities and benefit our customers. The fact that Microsoft is able to deliver faster than planned reaffirms our decision to build our solutions on Microsoft Dynamics NAV,” Christian Sega, managing director at agiles Informationssysteme GmbH, an industry solution provider and consulting company specializing in horizontal workflow solutions built on Microsoft Dynamics NAV, added.
