Also, not all features will be available at launch

During Microsoft's BUILD 2015 conference, Joe Belfiore made some statements that could shed some light on the upcoming release of Windows 10 for Phones.

Although we initially thought that Microsoft would launch Windows 10 on PC and phones around the same time, it looks like the company has other plans.

Windows 10 is expected to arrive sometime this summer, but according to Belfiore, Windows Phone users should not expect the mobile version of the operating system to be released on their smartphones soon after that.

According to The Verge, Joe Belfiore has said that Microsoft's “phone builds have not been as far as long as our PC builds,” but they are trying to adapt “the phone experiences later than we’re adding the PC experiences.”

This means that Windows 10 for Phones development is a bit behind compared to the desktop version. In this regard, Microsoft confirmed earlier today that the next Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview build would be slightly delayed.

Windows 10 for Phones update will be pushed in waves when released

Apart from the fact that Windows 10 might not be released on phones this summer, Belfiore also confirmed that the operating system would not have all the features included at launch.

“There are devices and features that will come not on launch date, but following it. From the device view, our main focus is to kick off the Windows 10 launch wave with a great launch on the PC,” he said.

Furthermore, “You should expect that the other devices - phone, HoloLens, Xbox, Surface Hub - will be staggered, probably not on the same date as the PC.”

That being said, we're also expecting the first Windows 10 smartphones to be launched later this year, after the new OS gets released.

Although we kind of expected Microsoft to release new flagship smartphones as early as this summer, there's a high chance this won't happen after all.
