Microsoft released four new Windows 8 advertisements earlier today, but the company has also revealed some of its plans for what’s being called “the Windows 8 marketing blitz.”

It appears that the Redmond-based technology company wants to take over the Times Square billboards on October 26 with the biggest Start Screen ever.

According to Brandon LeBlanc of Microsoft, Windows 8 will be featured on over 39 digital boards in Times Square on October 25 – 27.

“And we will be hosting a hands-on experience on the ground in Times Square and at our Microsoft Stores in the North America for consumers to touch and try the new Windows —and maybe even see yourself up on the boards in Times Square,” he said.

The Windows 8 Start Screen is one of the wildly criticized features of the new operating system, as it replaces the traditional Start Menu and the Start button.

Consumers find it pretty confusing and, although they admit that its design is indeed very appealing, most of them consider the Start Screen less helpful than the Start Menu.

Microsoft on the other hand says it’s just a matter of time until people get used to it and emphasizes that the Start Screen has many more features than the ones you’re seeing at the first glance.

Windows 8 will officially go on sale on October 26 alongside the company’s first tablet ever, the Surface.

Consumers can already preorder the operating system, while an online upgrade program allows them to move from a previous Windows version to this new one at a special price.
