Getting closer to developers is Microsoft’s key priority these days, as the tech giant wants to bring more apps to the market and even merge the Windows and the Windows Phone stores.

As a result, Microsoft has recently announced that developers can now integrate Facebook login support in their apps, which means that users will no longer be asked to create new accounts for specific apps.

Support for Facebook login in Windows is available starting today, while Windows Phone developers are only provided with a beta testing program for the new feature. The beta campaign is expected to last 60 days or less, Microsoft says, but it all depends on the feedback it receives from devs.

“For developers, seamlessly integrating Facebook Login overcomes one of consumers’ largest blockers to trying a new app: getting past an identity screen. Every step or interruption between a consumer and the task they want to complete creates friction and engagement drop-off,” the company noted.

Basically, Facebook login support means that consumers can login to an app faster, as they can use the credentials already stored on the device. At the same time, apps can provide an enhanced experience thanks to options such as high score Facebook sharing, playing games with friends, and photo or other type of content sharing.

Several software companies have already announced that they would take advantage of the new Facebook login support, with both Foursquare and Adobe to integrate it into their own Modern apps.

“Facebook Login is a complimentary offering to Microsoft’s identity system for consumers, Microsoft Account, which is used to authenticate on a Windows device, download apps from the Store and a host of other functions,” Microsoft said, guaranteeing that it’ll continue to bet big on Microsoft accounts.

“We remain 100 percent committed to the Microsoft Account, as we are to Active Directory for companies.”
