Windows Phone users will be pleased to know that they will get a new game ahead of Android and iOS fans for once. Microsoft has just confirmed it will launch Age of Empires: Castle Siege on Windows Phone 8 devices sometime in September.

One would argue that Microsoft would be better fixing and/or improving the Age of Empire series for PC that’s been remastered, but doesn’t really feel like it’s been graphically enhanced too much to justify the high price.

Age of Empires: Castle Siege has been especially developed for touch control, so while building your empire or sieging castles, you will only have to swipe your finger on your phone’s screen.

The game will come with full support for Xbox Live Friends, so players can forge alliances and compete against other alliances for prized “crown count,” as well as fight their way to the top of the leaderboards.

The game offers both strategy and combat mechanics, so players will be able to choose from several civilizations and turn their castles into massive fortresses with huge walls that would be able to defend them against other players’ empires.

It also features cross-platform play, but only on Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8, as the game’s progress is saved directly to the Gamertag.

Although Microsoft did not share specific details on the exact release date of Age of Empires: Castle Siege, it did provide some interesting info on the requirements of the game.

So, you will need around 170MB of free storage on your phone and Wi-Fi network that would enable you to download the game. Windows Phone players will also need Internet network connection during playing sessions.

Microsoft did not announce anything regarding Age of Empires: Castle Siege price, but it did confirm it would feature in-game purchases in order to accelerate gameplay.

This means that the game is likely to be available for free on both Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 platform. There’s also no info on Windows Phone 8.1 compatibility, but we suspect Age of Empires: Castle Siege will support all devices powered by Windows Phone 8 and up.

Microsoft has a very busy schedule for the next several weeks. The Redmond-based company has already confirmed a launch event for this year’s IFA trade fair, where new Windows Phone handsets will be unveiled.

There’s also another event possibly scheduled for the end of September, which hasn’t been confirmed yet, where Microsoft will be announcing Windows 9.

In between all these, we believe they will find the time to launch Age of Empires: Castle Siege on Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8. We will keep an eye out for any additional details on the matter, so stay tuned.
