Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has just revealed a personal letter about his plans with the company overall and even dedicated a few paragraphs to the Xbox division and to how gaming can help the large software giant access a wide array of consumers.

Microsoft as a whole went through a pretty major shakeup earlier this year, after longtime CEO Steve Ballmer resigned and Satya Nadella was put in charge of the large corporation.

At the same time, the Xbox division also went through some restructuring, ultimately deciding that it should be led by Microsoft Game Studios boss Phil Spencer.

Now, CEO Satya Nadella has offered a public letter to employees and the world at large, highlighting his plans for the big company and for the Xbox division in particular.

According to Nadella, gaming is a crucial part of life nowadays and the Xbox division allows Microsoft to ensure a major presence in this area.

"The single biggest digital life category, measured in both time and money spent, in a mobile-first world is gaming. We are fortunate to have Xbox in our family to go after this opportunity with unique and bold innovation. Microsoft will continue to vigorously innovate and delight gamers with Xbox. Xbox is one of the most-revered consumer brands, with a growing online community and service, and a raving fan base," he said.

Nadella outlined the many technologies that started out at the Xbox division and rolled out into Microsoft overall, such as the natural user interface in Windows, the speech recognition in Skype, or the Azure cloud enhancements.

"We also benefit from many technologies flowing from our gaming efforts into our productivity efforts - core graphics and NUI in Windows, speech recognition in Skype, camera technology in Kinect for Windows, Azure cloud enhancements for GPU simulation and many more. Bottom line, we will continue to innovate and grow our fan base with Xbox while also creating additive business value for Microsoft."

What's more, Nadella also hinted several times that the world nowadays is a mobile-first one and mentioned that more ambitious projects would appear from Microsoft's Xbox division in the future.

"In the next few years we will see many more new categories evolve and experiences emerge that span a variety of devices of all screen sizes. Microsoft will be on the forefront of this innovation with a particular focus on dual users and their needs across work and life. Microsoft will continue to vigorously innovate and delight gamers with Xbox."

It's unclear just what Microsoft has up its sleeve with the Xbox division, but you can expect it right now to focus on the Xbox One and make sure that it doesn't lag that much behind the PS4 from Sony.
