It was just days ago that Micron's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Steve Appleton, was reported dead after suffering a plane crash.

The company has now decided who the new chief executive is going to be, namely D. Mark Durcan, who has served as Chief Operating Officer of Micron since 2007.

He will also serve on Micron's Board of Directors while Director Robert E. Switz is set to become Chairman.

"We are deeply saddened by Steve's loss and will miss his hand at the helm,” said Mr. Durcan.

“I have provided the Board my ongoing commitment to work with the management team and continue to move the company forward.”

Micron is a world-class maker of semiconductors used in DRAM, NAND and NOR memory products. The late Steve Appleton, one of the most respected executives in the IT industry, had been with the company since 1983 and got named CEO in 1994.
