Solid state drive bets on all-rounded specs and has up to 400 GB

Micron has more to brag about than just its recent collaborations with Intel, as the company issued a new press release not long ago, one that goes into its activities on the enterprise segment.

Micron has been in the memory/storage market for years now, this being one of the reasons Intel called upon its expertise when it decided to try and extend its activities into the SSD and RAM front.

In fact, the two only just finished presenting their plans for the Hybrid Memory Cube (HMC) memory, which we covered here.

It so happens that future projects aren't all that Micron can speak of these days, especially on the enterprise front.

In fact, the company made an official announcement in which it describes the assets of its newest solid state drives.

Developed for the enterprise sector, the SSD series carries the name of RealSSD P400e and features capacities of 50 GB, 100 GB, 200 GB and 400 GB.

The NAND Flash memory chips employed in their making are of the MLC (multi-level cell) variety and built using the 25nm manufacturing process.

All of the drives have the 2.5-inch form factor (thickness of 7mm) and speeds of up to 350 MB/s when reading and 140 MB/s when writing (random 4K read/write performance is 50,000/7,000 IOPS).

"Our customers have been asking for an affordable, reliable, performance-driven, solid state storage option for DAS-level applications, and the P400e drive delivers on those key design requirements," said Gary Gentry, general manager of the enterprise SSD division of Micron's NAND Solutions Group.

"Micron continues to exhibit its vertically integrated strength by offering solutions like the P400e, which demonstrates our ability to marry advanced MLC NAND technology into leading storage systems architectures."

As some may have already guessed, the newcomers operate on the SATA 6.0 Gbps interface. Unfortunately, no prices were given.
