Elpida's fall from grace is one of the more humbling occurrences on the technology industry. It is not every day that a previously famous maker of memory product suffers bankruptcy.

Back in November 2013, we learned that the Tokyo court had agreed, in principle, to allow Micron to buy Elpida.

It turns out, though, that not all the details had been ironed out at the time.

In fact, the Tokyo court (Japan) has only now given the green light.

Micron will sponsor the “reorganization” of Elpida. The goal is to keep the company intact and the employees, well, employed.

Once the process is complete, Micron, with Elpida as a subsidiary, will be the world's second greatest memory company.

For those unaware, the one holding the top spot is, currently, Samsung.
