Micromax continues to launch Android products in India and the company's latest device is a tablet, the Canvas Tab P690.

The slate will be available for purchase in India beginning June for only Rs 8,999 ($140 / €125) outright. Micromax Canvas Tab P690 will only be available in black, but it comes with several offers.

For example, those who purchase the tablet will receive 6 free e-books on Kindle, 1GB of free data for two months for Vodafone users, 3-month premium subscription to Saavn, 6-month premium subscription to TrueCaller, 1-month subscription to Hello TV, as well as some free apps and games including Angry Birds and Angry Birds Go!

Moving on to specs, it's worth mentioning Canvas Tab P690 ships with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system right out of the box, but Micromax promised an upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop will be available at some point.

A Lollipop update should arrive soon

The tablet sports an 8-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution, and comes with 3G support.

It also packs a 1.8GHz quad-core Intel Atom processor, which is complemented by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. Obviously, users will be able to further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

Other highlights of the tablet include 5-megapixel camera on the back, 2-megapixel front-facing camera and a 4,000 mAh battery.

“Our research has made it clear that there is a large segment of consumers who would value a technology device that can be shared between the family members, and so we’ve created a powerful yet affordable tablet powered by Intel, aimed at helping family members enjoy the big screen of the tablet for the things they love, including Movies, Games, Music, Reading and so on.

“More such products with sharply defined positioning will follow in the next few weeks and months,” said Vineet Taneja, CEO, Micromax Informatics.
